New A Level Centre of Excellence set to open at Sutton Coldfield College

BMet has announced plans to open an A Level Centre of Excellence at Sutton Coldfield College, next year.

The new college is set to provide exceptional levels of teaching and assessment for students.

Led by a team of specialist staff, there will be a greater use of technologies and resources to enrich the learning experience offered at BMet.

The college is renowned for its wide choice of A Level programmes and the new centre will enhance the learning opportunities delivered to hundreds of 16-19 year-olds across the area.

The introduction of this new Centre of Excellence means A Levels traditionally offered across BMet sites will now merge into one provision at Sutton Coldfield College.

This decision to consolidate the A Level provision has been led by a review of best practice in the sector and the need to grow BMet’s technical offer in line with Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and Combined Authority skills priorities.

During the next 18 months at Stourbridge College A Level provision will be withdrawn. The college will take the opportunity to develop and grow the already strong vocational education offer, in line with LEP and Combined Authority skills priorities. The college will expand its apprenticeship offer and is well placed for the implementation of Technical Levels from 2020.

Mustafa Shevket, Head of Sutton Coldfield College, said: “We are delighted that the BMet A level Centre of Excellence will be at Sutton Coldfield College.

“We already have a fantastic A Level provision here and this is set to boost that further.

“The development of this Centre of Excellence will involve implementation of best practice from around the country and ideas generated from our own team.”

BMet continues to communicate with its staff, students and parents and local employers on the plans.
