Students help to create Christmas for the National Trust

The mansion house is owned by Croome Heritage Trust.

Lecturer, Juliet May explained: “For the past year we have worked with Croome Heritage Trust and Croome National Park to provide unique tree decorations. It has been an excellent opportunity for students to gain work experience. There’s been a lot of praise for the decorations and the students themselves have absolutely loved seeing them on the trees.”

The students, who are from the Art and Design Centre, Brierley Hill explored Croome Court and its history before taking inspiration from the landscape of Croome Park, designed by Robert Adams and the estate’s Long Gallery, designed by Capability Brown. Their decorations also paid tribute to Barbara St John and Maria Gunning who were the two wives of George William Coventry, owner of Croome Court and the 6th Earl of Coventry.

Becky Wilks, National Trust Events Officer said: “The students have done a fantastic job with the decorations. We’re very pleased that all their hard work is being admired by so many people. Inviting the students to contribute to Croome Court’s seasonal celebrations is a way for us to expose younger generations to the property and its heritage and encourage them to acknowledge the history in their own imaginative way.”

The students are on the first year of a UAL Diploma in Art and Design.
