Students made up by zombie movie award nomination
Emma Buet, Lecturer for theatre arts, film and TV design said: “This is an amazing achievement for the 20 students that were involved in the filming. They spent two days working with and being guided by the chief prosthetics artist so they could create grisly-looking face and body make-up. Some of the team also focused on the key task of making up the lead characterand anumber of other colourful side characters such as a clown and wheelbarrow Man, a fellow entertainer with a miner-based look.
“The award nomination proves to the students that they are on the right professional track. It’s also another way for them to experience the industry in its full glory, with the film being seen by a whole new audience of fans, producers, distributors and media.”
Stilltells the story of a living statue entertainer who finds himself caught in the midst of a zombie apocalypse and has to rely on his ability to keep very still to stay alive.It stars Birmingham-born actor, Joe Capella and is written and directed by Carl Timms, Head of Production at The Space.
“Much of the credit for this nomination and award wins is down to the fantastic work of the students, who were incredibly enthusiastic throughout the filming and a big support to the special effects and prosthetics team,” said Carl. “It’s hugely exciting for the film to be on the bill of this inaugural festival. It’s a chance to showcase local talent among some of the world’s best artists.”
Prosthetics artist, Stuart Conran from Stourbridge provided the film’s special effects and prosthetics expertise having worked on many zombie movies including head of special effects and make-up design on Shaun of the Dead.
The film has already received industry recognition in the Independent Horror Movie Awards where it received wins for best gore and best special effects as well as for best humour, best writing and a best actor award.
The Birmingham Film Festival is taking place at The Mockingbird Theatre in Birmingham’s Custard Factory. Still will be shown at midday on Friday 25 November and the festival awards are being presented at a gala awards ceremony on Sunday 27 November.
