Time travel experience lets students see their future selves

Over 470 school students time travelled forward to 2019 to experience what sixth form life could be like for them.

Taster days were hosted at Stourbridge College and Kidderminster Academy for six local schools, last week.

The 14 and 15-year-olds became entrepreneurs, health care and early years practitioners, microbiologists, motor vehicle technicians and construction industry professionals, getting a flair for all the different roles they can train for.

“Our taster days were great fun for everyone involved,” said Gill Coldicott, Head of Stourbridge College. “The students took part in career-related activities that gave them examples of their future selves. After discovering more about college life, qualifications and training routes, we hope they are more confident now about the jobs they can go into.”

“The students enjoyed the opportunity to sample life on the different courses,” added Christine Morris, Teacher and Collegiate Link at Hillcrest School. “Their futures are still quite open so it was important for them to get insights into some of the subjects and learning experiences out there. These included looking at qualifications in digital art, motor vehicle and construction. Finding out about apprenticeships was also valuable.

“Overall it was a success, combined with fine weather and ice-creams!”
