Virtual ceremony showcases college student excellence

Students across a range of courses at BMet’s Sutton Coldfield College and A Level Centre, have been officially recognised for their outstanding achievements at a special virtual ceremony.

Twenty-three learners were honoured for their hard work at the college’s annual End of Year Celebration Awards  – this year via Microsoft Teams.

The vibrant online event, hosted by Sutton Coldfield College’s Vice Principal Anna Jackson, had around 50 participants including nominating students and teachers.

Award winners were announced and congratulated in the following areas of the curriculum:
A Levels, Vocational Science, Digital, Performing Arts, Creative, Foundation Learning/Princes Trust, Accounts HE & Management, Vocational Business and Administration, English & ESOL, Maths, Health & Social Care, Early Years, Travel & Tourism, Public Services and Sport.

Public Services award winner, Beth, said: “Just being nominated was overwhelming, let alone winning the award! Perseverance was a key factor. Getting the award is an honour and I am more than thankful to all the teachers who were supportive, adaptable and helped me to achieve the grades I have.”

Katie, who won an “activity engagement’ award said: “I was very happy to be the winner, especially as this is my last year at college.   I’m proud to have been able to help encourage many girls to get into sport and hopefully I can carry on getting people involved in sport in the future.”

Accounts, HE and Management award winner, Alec, said: “I was surprised yet pleased to be named as the award winner. I am looking forward to completing this year’s studies and continuing onto next even more so now!”

Creative award winner, Kyra, said: “It means a great deal to me that I won the award, as I work very hard and am extremely passionate about my artwork. It’s wonderful to see my hard work paying off. Also, as I’ve never been one to do too well in school, I’m very proud of myself for going the extra mile!”

Ajaib, who was crowned as the “Student of the month” said: “I feel extremely honoured and blessed to have been awarded with this title. It means a lot to me, as I rarely get selected for any awards. My parents are very proud of me and that means a great deal to me!”

All award winners will be presented with their certificates and trophies when they return to college.

Despite the unique occasion of connecting virtually, the event was a resounding success and participants dressed in smart attire, to mark the celebration.

Commenting on the awards, Sutton Coldfield College’s Vice Principal, Anna Jackson, said: “The awards not only focus on academic achievements, but they also recognise the students’ achievements all round – which include factors like punctuality, attendance, growth of knowledge and development of personal goals.

“Our end of year awards is always an important date in the diary –  even more so this year when we have been teaching remotely due to Covid-19.

“We value all of our students and are pleased that we have been able to celebrate their achievements in what have been challenging times.”
