Wesleyan apprentices graduate with permanent roles

Six apprentices have earned themselves permanent jobs at Wesleyan’s Birmingham head office after becoming the latest group to successfully graduate from the mutual’s 18 month training programme.

The apprentices are the sixth group to complete the scheme the specialist financial services provider runs with Birmingham Metropolitan College (BMet). The course was designed to provide an alternative career route into the financial services sector.

Vicki Wentworth, Wesleyan’s Chief Customer and Strategy Officer, said: “Wesleyan has always nurtured talent within the business and within the community. These apprentices have really grown over the past 18 months and we are proud of them and the effort they’ve put in. We hope they will have glorious careers here for many years to come.”

Andrew Cleaves, Principal at BMet, said: “The government is really promoting the idea of creating more apprentice opportunities and schemes like this will help achieve those ambitions.

“It’s important for these apprentices to know that completing their studies isn’t a destination, it’s a staging post. My advice is for them to keep pushing themselves to stay ahead in this ever changing world.”

Sarah Collumb, who has been an apprentice in the Wesleyan IT department and will now be taking up a permanent role there, said: “For me, joining the apprenticeship scheme was better than going to university. I’ve been given an opportunity to learn new skills and develop my career. It’s taught me how to be successful as an individual and as part of a team.”

More than 50 apprentices have joined Wesleyan’s apprenticeship scheme since 2010. After attaining NVQs in business and administration, financial services or customer service from BMet, the vast majority continue to work at Wesleyan and develop their careers.

Wesleyan is a mutual financial services provider working with doctors, dentists, teachers and lawyers.
