Entry Criteria
BMet offers a wide range of programmes for you to study from entry level to degree level. We know everyone is different so we make every effort to help you pick the right qualifications and route to get you to where you want to be. Whatever previous qualifications and experience you have, we will be able to offer you a course that moves you towards your chosen goals.
We set our admissions criteria to make sure everyone studying with us has the best chance of success. The statements below outline what we usually expect you to have achieved before starting at a particular level or type of course. For a number of our subjects, such as art and design, we will also ask to see your portfolio of previous work.
Level 3
A Level Programmes
To study a programme of three A Levels with us we ask that you have a minimum of five GCSEs at Grades B or C (5) and above including Maths and English plus subject specific requirements and an average point score of five. For A Level arts related subjects we also need to see your portfolio (at least five pieces of your work).
Vocational Programmes (Two Year)
Vocational Courses are delivered as Subsidiary, Extended/90 Credit and Foundation Studies Diplomas. Entry criteria vary dependent on the type of Diploma studied.
Subsidiary
To study a Subsidiary Diploma you will need four or five GCSE passes at Grade C (4) or above including Maths and/or English or Level 2 Vocational Programme at a Pass Grade or above.
90 Credit/Extended Diploma
To study a 90 Credit/Extended Diploma you will need four or five GCSE passes at Grade C (5) or above including Maths and English or Level 2 Vocational Programme at a Merit Grade or above.
Diploma in Foundation Studies
To study a Diploma in Foundation Studies you will need two AS Levels or one A Level or a National Diploma/Extended Diploma in a related subject or equivalent qualifications.
Access to Higher Education
Our access programmes are aimed at adults looking to progress onto university level study and are specifically designed for mature students aged 19+. We ask that applicants can demonstrate a range of life experiences outside of formal education including but not limited to voluntary or paid work so you can benefit fully from the experience of studying these courses.
You will need to demonstrate that you have literacy skills and numeracy skills at Level 2 as a minimum. To do this we will ask you to complete an on-line assessment. We also ask you to complete a piece of free writing in a set time, a written comprehension test and an interview with a course tutor.
This may seem like a long list but we know what is required to prepare you to study university level qualifications and we want to make sure you have every chance of success.
GCSE English and Maths at Grade C are critical requirements for university entrance so if you do not have these or their equivalent you will need to study them alongside your access programme. If you are studying a health, social care or education programme you will also be required to study science to GCSE if you haven’t already achieved a Grade C.
Level 2
To study a Level 2 Programme you will need four GCSEs at Grade D (3) and above or Level 1 Vocational Programme at a Pass Grade in a relevant subject.
