BMet gears up for first open events of the academic year

BMet is gearing up for a series of ‘virtual open events” next week (12 October to 15 October) in the shape of live information sessions, Q&As, careers advice, and how to apply details.

The ‘Virtual Open Events’ are designed to give parents and prospective students a chance to find out more about the fantastic range of options from September 2021 as school students make plans for what to do after they leave school in the summer.

There is even a chance for attendees to win an ipad to help get them college ready!

The live and recorded events are being run on the Zoom video platform due to the current social distancing restrictions and are bookable online now.

The week will kick start on Monday 12 October at BMet’s satellite site the Centre of Sporting Excellence.

Hot on the heels of the first event will be virtual sessions run on consecutive days across all three of the main BMet colleges – James Watt College, Matthew Boulton College and Sutton Coldfield College.

Each of the colleges will showcase their specialisms including:  A levels, Accounts, Art and Design, Business, Construction, Dental, Digital, Computing, Creative Arts and Media, Early Years, Engineering, Games, Health and Social Care, Law, Music, Performing Arts, Photography, Public Services, Science, Sport and Travel and Tourism.  BMet also offers maths and English and Foundation Learning.

The schedule for the week is as follows, see below to register:

Apprenticeship programmes will also be covered with a chance to find out more about the unique advantages of these earn-as-you-learn programmes.

Year 13 students will also be able to find out about university level options at BMet.

Among other things, participants will be able to take a virtual tour of BMet’s facilities, hear from specialist tutors and take part in a live Q & A.

Cliff Hall, BMet Principal, said: “Leaving school can be a daunting prospect but our virtual open events can open up a myriad of options and opportunities for Y11 students.

“We welcome both parents and students to our events to discover the array of career pathways available with us and to meet our welcoming teaching team.

“Whilst it is difficult to convey the full excitement and engagement of student life at BMet without currently being able to invite people onto site in large numbers, we are aiming to share as much as we can about the flavour and quality of studying at BMet.

“We have a friendly and knowledgeable team at hand in our sessions, all keen to help students decide on that all-important next episode.”

Please visit BMet’s website to register your interest, to find out more about the full timetable of events and to check which college site that courses of interest are held.
